Helping Other Organisations

Coatham House

We continue to assist Coatham House, a small charity based in Redcar that provides housing and support for growing numbers of young people at risk of homelessness in the area. We provide management services with a focus on making the charity more robust and resilient as it moves forward. We have recruited two new trustees and the current board has refined its plans for the next 24 months which includes the aspiration to provide more housing in the area.

The Charity has made good progress in terms of providing more bed spaces and investment to improve the quality of its accommodation, we have worked with the charity to renovate an empty property to create a two bedroomed flat and are now looking for resources to complete the renovation of a further flat to create another bed space in the centre of Redcar.

Its funding position continues to improve as funders are wanting to resource the developmental objectives we have laid down. Redcar and Cleveland Council have continued to provide resources for the Floating Support Service that work with those homeless or at risk of homelessness in the town. The charity is wrestling with sustainability and succession planning for staff/future leaders & services.

Centre for Social Justice Foundation

During 2023 we continued to engage with the CSJ ensuring the voice of our tenants and service users is used as an evidence base to develop policy reform that tackle the root causes of poverty and social breakdown. We hosted a round table event around peoples experience of the private rented sector which contributed to the CSJ report, Raising the Roof – Building a Better Private Rented Sector published in October 2023 which was cited in a parliamentary debate about the Renters Reform Bill.

Carlisle Key Project

We continue to support the Carlisle Key Project hosting two visits during 2023. Carlisle Key provides housing and support to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through their weekly drop-in and supported housing service. We have worked with them to set new housing benefit levels that accurately reflect the service they provide and our finance team have given them guidance around financial management.

Springfield Project

During 2023 we assisted the Springfield Project, the only dedicated refuge in Cumbria offering safe emergency accommodation to women and children fleeing domestic violence to review their license agreement, policies and procedures and rent level.

Anekal Read Centre, India

Community Campus continues to support the work of the Anekal Read Centre in Bangalore. The centre works with the most disadvantaged rural and tribal communities in Southern India to create sustainable livelihoods. Over the years we have helped fund the building of two classrooms for Jamboo Savari Dinne Junior School, sent a container of school furniture that was initially marked for disposal, donated and helped build a youth hall in a rural village in Tamil Nadu.
