Care and Repair
In our early years of operation, we employed various contractors to complete repairs on our properties, as the number of properties grew we decided to create our own maintenance and repair service, ensuring we are in control of costs, quality and customer care whilst also meeting one of our aims of creating sustainable employment. The ‘Care and Repair’ team can now undertake the majority of repairs within our housing stock except for roofing, gas and electrical work. We now take on commissioned work from other organisations from small scale repairs to major refurbishments.
Our Care and Repair Team have been busy working on two major property refurbishments with funding from Land Aid to bring these properties back into use. Our Team are working on two derelict houses in Upton Street and Stainton Street in Middlesbrough with support from our latest cohort of apprentices and college placements.
In keeping with our mission and values we have created opportunities for four apprenticeships within the Care and Repair Team as a joiner, painter/decorator and multi-skilled. We know from our past experience that apprenticeships have a huge impact on people’s lives, not only equipping young people with the skills and experience to move onto permanent employment but also improving resilience, confidence and emotional well-being.
Apprenticeships
Our Apprentices are hardworking members of our team, they are continuing with their NVQ courses at College one day per week. We have also extended their training contracts to work here at Campus for another year. We are grateful to the Teesside Charity who have contributed to the funding of the apprentices.
The Care and Repair Team responded to 88 emergency repairs and a further 435 non–emergency repairs throughout 2023
Noah
Apprentice
“I really enjoy learning on the job ‘hands-on’ and getting paid. Everyday is different. Some days it is joinery, the next it could be plastering or painting. I’m also learning a lot working on a full house renovation. I would recommend an apprenticeship”.
Stu
Care & Repair Team
“I enjoy working with our apprentices. I think it’s important to help them to find something they like doing and then once they have found it, encourage them to keep at it! They get a qualification from College and get paid too.”
John
Care & Repair Team
“I have 40 years experience of working in the Construction Industry and I enjoy helping to support and guide our apprentices to help them perform a range of different tasks which we need here in the Care and Repair Team.”
